Explanation
一番 (いちばん) literally means 'number one' and functions as the Japanese superlative. It is placed before an adjective or adverb to create the 'most' or '-est' form.
The common patterns are: [Group の中で] [何/どこ/だれ が] 一番 [adjective] ですか for questions, and [A が] 一番 [adjective] for answers. The group or scope of the comparison is marked with の中で (among).
Unlike English, which changes adjective forms (big → biggest) or adds 'most,' Japanese simply places 一番 before any adjective. This makes superlatives straightforward once you know the pattern.

一番高い directly modifies 山. Do not insert の between the adjective and the noun.

Questions end with か, not の, in polite form.
Wrong
日本の中で一番高い山は富士山です。
Correct
日本で一番高い山は富士山です。
For places, use で rather than の中で. の中で is more natural for groups of items or people.
